Multi-purpose batch furnace

This type of furnace is an indirectly heated, gastight system allowing heat treatment of workpieces by processes such as annealing, carbonitriding, carburising, case-hardening and bright hardening.

A batch furnace of this type has a cooling and hardening chamber. After it has entered the furnace, the material to be treated is moved in a charging basket over one roller table and onto the next roller table in the cooling chamber. The outer door is closed and the cooling chamber is filled with protective gas, which in turn opens the fireproof lock door situated between the cooling chamber and the furnace chamber, and the workpieces are again conveyed over a roller table into the furnace, where they are heated by steel tubes or heating resistors.

A circulator ensures circulation of the gas atmosphere. After the heating and diffusion cycles are complete, the fireproof lock door is opened and the workpieces are pulled over a roller table directly into the cooling chamber onto a lifting and lowering platform. This platform immerses the workpieces in the hardening medium and thus completes the hardening process.

In the lower part of the cooling chamber there is a quenching bath in which the workpieces are hardened in an insulated manner. A circulation pump ensures that the temperature of the hardening fluid is uniform. The cooling chamber can be equipped with a circulator so that the carburised elements can be cooled without hardening. After hardening, the workpieces are conveyed outwards onto the loading table via a roller table.

It is very practical to equip the cooling chamber with two chambers, as this ensures energy- and time-saving operation of the furnace system in that, while one batch of workpieces is cooling, the next one is already being conveyed to the furnace for heat treatment.

The multi-purpose furnace is therefore an extremely efficient design, which is ideally suited to carrying out complex thermal processes. A system of this type can be equipped with various technological elements such as a roller table for batch preparation, manipulator carriage, washing machine, preheating furnace, drawing furnace, low-cooling device.

A multi-purpose batch furnace can be electrically or gas-heated, is available in manual or fully automatic versions, and is suitable for the heat treatment of mass-produced items in steel (parts, machine elements etc.) and successive batches or loads in different gases (e.g. bright annealing, normalising, case-hardening, nitrocarburising).
