Heat soak test furnace

This type of furnace is used for testing toughened glass, is which the glass is heated in order to bring about a targeted spontaneous fracture, which usually results from impacts in everyday use. Toughened glass consists of a single, thermally processed pane. The glass is first intensively heated and then subjected to rapid cooling. This increases its impact-resistance.

It is then tested in a heat soak test furnace by being kept hot for at least four hours. Spontaneous fractures, which occur in untested toughened glass due to isolated inclusions of nickel sulphide which can change their structure years later and destroy the glass, are thereby largely reduced, the the risk of injury in everyday use is thus much lower.
