Age-hardening & solution treatment

Both applications are important steps in hardening, which is a process for heat-treating alloys to increase their hardness and strength.

During solution treatment, the alloy elements which promote hardening are dissolved by supplying heat and then rapidly quenched, so the material is hardened but can also be brittle.

The age-hardening process, in which the material is again exposed to certain temperatures depending on the material, means that the brittleness of the material structure which arises after quenching can be counteracted and the hardness and strength of the material can be achieved in a targeted manner. A distinction is made between cold and hot age-hardening.
